Wakefield

Founded in 1830 by Irish immigrants, Wakefield made his home the west of the Gatineau River. Only 20 minutes away from the Nation’s Capital, Wakefield is a village of artistic and natural colours. Bordered by lakes and rivers, it is home to an energetic cultural life and abundant outdoor activities.

Wakefield is a friendly community that opens its doors to artists in search of inspiration, nature lovers and all of this, in an atmosphere of tranquility.

The country life

A four-season entertainment village with a variety of cafes, pubs, restaurants, boutiques and art galleries. In addition to being immersed in the community’s cultural paradise, outdoor enthusiasts will be served. Among other things, several trails have been arranged and are open for hiking and mountain biking.

Located north of Gatineau Park, Wakefield has the green lung of the Outaouais as its back yard. This location makes it possible to immerse yourself in the Laflèche Caves, one of the great caverns of the Canadian Shield. In addition, Mont Cascades Water Park offers the whole family a fun day out in its water slides. There are also the Eco-Odyssée adventures, with pedal-boat exploration of their swamp so you can discover the beaver’s natural habitat. Other family activities such as kayak, canoe and paddle board rentals are also available.

The mountain life

For winter activities, Wakefield is a little paradise with white trails. Several activities are very popular and allow you to explore the area without ever getting tired of it. In particular, a new pilot project has made it possible to introduce fat biking to our new trails in Gatineau Park. For snowshoeing enthusiasts, there are also more than 60 kilometres of trails, depending on the hiker’s level of experience.

For more family activities, dog sledding and skating through the forest remain an incredible experience. Gatineau Park even offers winter camping in the great outdoors, just minutes from Wakefield.

Vorlage Ski Station

Located at the doorstep of the Ski Vorlage resort, Wakefield Hills allows alpine skiers to enjoy the slopes with a variety of trail options. In addition to family-friendly days, Vorlage offers skiing and snowboarding lessons for beginners and experts alike. On the menu, we also have a racing club and ski shows.

The community of Wakefield can also enjoy the slopes at Edelweiss, Mont Cascades or Camp Fortune.
